Influencers are all too happy to be used by the supplement industry, and they are handsomely rewarded for it. The truth is not a priority.

Arjen Lubach says that healthy people do not need dietary supplements. The only reason they exist is because there is a lot of money to be made. Influencers willingly let themselves be used by the industry and are, of course, generously rewarded for it. In doing so, they make the most questionable claims. It is time to put a definitive end to these unscrupulous practices, according to Lubach. The tone has been set. Let's take a look.

Lubach has a point when he says that a lot of money is being made from dubious products with dubious claims in the dietary supplement industry. The law is very strict about what you can and cannot say. Those rules, as Lubach also shows, are very ambiguous. The law is also very vague about what can be stated on labels. For example, you are allowed to call a product "natural" if only 5% of the content is of natural origin. Moreover, the qualification "of natural origin" says very little about the quality of the product. After all, the way it is processed is at least as important as what it is made of.

The dietary supplement industry is dominated by parties that have only one goal in mind: profit maximization. They aim to reach the largest possible group with products that are produced as cheaply as possible and sold for the highest price. It is a shadowy game of 'make believe' and deception. All, of course, within the boundaries of the law.

The official answer from voedingscentrum.nl is that most people do not need dietary supplements if they follow a varied diet. In their view, a varied diet provides everything a person needs to stay healthy. The Voedingscentrum is not known for its progressive views on nutrition and health. After all, how do they explain that while people are living longer, they are also developing chronic illnesses at an increasingly younger age? And what can you do about it? The Voedingscentrum owes us an answer to these questions, and that is precisely why people go looking for satisfactory answers themselves. If you are asking these questions for the first time, you are very susceptible to the beautiful promises of the supplement peddlers. It is not easy for a layperson to find their way through the supplement jungle.

The industry's standard answer to the question of whether you need supplements is that since the Second World War, the quality of our food has drastically declined and contains significantly fewer nutrients due to ultra-processed food. This is why people get sick sooner and why dietary supplements are necessary to correct these chronic deficiencies. It is difficult to determine what dose of nutrients is needed for a healthy life.
The problem with this reasoning is that science has only been able to establish that people get sick in cases of very severe deficiencies. Determining the exact dose of nutrients required to be and remain fit and vital is very difficult to prove and is a subject of debate. Orthomolecular therapists believe that almost all diseases can be traced back to a deficiency in vitamins and minerals and that you can therefore make people better by administering a large dose of nutrients. Dietary supplements as medicine, in other words.
It is very difficult to provide scientific evidence when it comes to nutrition anyway. Scientific studies are thrown at you from all sides, and they often contradict each other. These studies do not provide hard evidence, at most a suspicion. It is no wonder that official bodies like the Voedingscentrum keep their distance and that many doctors and therapists in the regular circuit go along with this.

Not only is determining a healthy dose of nutrients very difficult, but so is determining the influence these substances have on each other. And that is leaving aside all those substances whose function science does not yet fully understand. Establishing the correct dosage is the raison d'être of orthomolecular medicine. It is an in-depth and time-consuming study, and here too, one can wonder if they are on the right track. Hard evidence is simply lacking. Let alone that a layperson or a shop assistant at the Vitaminstore could determine what you need and in what quantity. All in all, not exactly a ringing endorsement for dietary supplements....
Yet the idea that you can strengthen or even regain your health by swallowing a few tablets is apparently so attractive that billions are spent on it annually. A lucrative business, then. Even without hard evidence, you can make a lot of money with healthy living tips and supplements! The consumer will buy them anyway. People are irrational beings, and I understand why Lubach sees the irony in that.

The fact that science has not yet found hard evidence does not necessarily mean it isn't true, or that everything regarding nutritional supplements is nonsense. You could just as easily argue that science is severely failing to prove even the most obvious truths. Everyone knows an apple is good for you, yet science has no hard proof for that. Is eating an apple therefore pointless? Of course not! The law even forbids lemon growers from claiming that eating them is highly effective against scurvy!
That privilege is reserved solely for the pharmaceutical industry after conducting extensive and very costly double-blind tests. No one denies the principle and utility of nutrients, but how best to obtain them is a matter of common sense. Supplementing our diet with nutrients is not nonsense in principle. Whether it is effective depends on many factors: what is the origin, how is it processed, has the natural context been preserved, what is the final composition, how is it preserved, and what is the dosage?

At SMPL, our conviction is that the closer you are to 'how Mother Nature intended', the better. The ideal is therefore a diet consisting solely of fresh ingredients that is not supplemented. Foodies show this every day. But how feasible is that? Perhaps if you have nothing else to do and have made cooking your hobby. Not for mere mortals like me, and many others with me. The reality for most of us is that cooking a fresh meal without ready-made ingredients has become a rarity. And that inevitably comes at the expense of nutritional value. The more processed food we prepare, the worse it gets, with ultra-processed food being the absolute low point. But even for true foodies, pre-cut vegetables are the rule rather than the exception. And that is without even considering the declining quality of fresh ingredients due to intensive farming. In short, the average consumer eats food of very average quality, and that is only getting worse. The question then is whether our food still contains enough nutrients for a healthy and vital life. The nutrition center says yes, but a growing group of consumers sees it differently.
Suppose it is true that our food does not contain enough nutrients; what then? We at SMPL say: "Start with the basics: minerals." Of all nutrients, minerals are the only ones not created by organisms such as plants and animals. Minerals come from the soil; it is 'the dust of the earth'. And if they are not in the soil, they are not in our food either.
Problem recognized by WHO and FAO
That is precisely a global problem recognized by the WHO and FAO. Science has established the physical utility of 16 minerals. For the other 56 minerals, it is not (yet) certain, and so they have not been officially declared essential for a healthy body. Yet there are strong indications that they are indeed useful. Our common sense tells us that if humans are made of 'the dust of the earth' then it is nothing less than logical that all that dust—or rather, minerals—should be present in our body.

So, supplementation with fulvic acid, but before I go further into that, I first want to address the quality of supplements in general.
What determines that?
Viewed in this light, it is not easy to produce a high-quality and effective dietary supplement. And certainly not at a low price. You might even genuinely wonder if it is possible to produce a high-quality and effective dietary supplement at all. Our search ultimately led us to the plant minerals of SMPL72.
In our view, SMPL72 is not only the perfect dietary supplement, but also the only one for which you can definitively argue that every person needs it. The latter is evidenced by the simple fact that soils worldwide are depleted and contain nowhere near the amounts of minerals they did some 50 years ago. From this, we can conclude with certainty that almost every person has a chronic mineral deficiency. Because even if you were to cook fresh every day and never eat pre-packaged or ultra-processed food, you would still not get enough minerals, let alone the full spectrum of all 72 minerals.
The beauty of SMPL72 is that it is a 100% natural product that is virtually unprocessed, with no chemicals, high pressure, or high temperatures used in its production. It is extracted from prehistoric humus layers that are 32 million years old. SMPL72 is pure fulvic acid. Fulvic acid is an end product of the decomposition of plant matter by soil organisms. First, humus is formed containing humic acids, and eventually, fulvic acid is created. Without fulvic acid, plants would not be able to absorb minerals from the soil. Fulvic acid is capable of binding these inorganic substances, thereby making them bioactive. Fulvic acid is water-soluble and is thus absorbed by plants through their roots.
You could say that the soil is the plant's stomach and fulvic acid is the stomach acid that ensures the food—the minerals—is digested and made absorbable. ThusWithout vital soil life, little or no fulvic acid is produced, making it much harder for plants to access their nutrients, with all the consequences that entails.
In prehistoric times, plants grew up to 35 times larger than they do today, and their roots reached correspondingly deeper. Furthermore, the growth and decay cycles of plants remained uninterrupted for vast periods, allowing for the formation of incredibly thick layers of humus. Due to various geological processes, most of these layers have been lost, but in a few places on Earth, the humus has been preserved without turning into stone.
The ancient humus layers from which SMPL72 is distilled are located in the Southeastern United States. They were discovered over a hundred years ago when a local farmer noticed that his pigs never got sick. This stood out. Investigation revealed that the pigs were rooting around and snacking on this ancient humus. Thinking that what is beneficial for pigs must also be good for humans, they began developing what we now call SMPL72.
Our humus is excavated and placed into enormous silos filled with pure water. Through a simple filtration process, pure fulvic acid is extracted over the course of two years. No additives or anything else are used. You might wonder if the natural context has remained intact in this case. A fair question. On one hand, no, because the context is the soil itself. On the other hand, you could say that fulvic acid is the context for the substances—minerals as well as other valuable nutrients—that it binds to itself. Fulvic acid is an indestructible and highly stable molecule that can remain unchanged for millions of years. Therefore, no special preservation measures are needed other than hygienic packaging. A 32-million-year-old substance can certainly handle a few more years.
In short, when it comes to nutritional supplements, it doesn't get any better than this. And I haven't even mentioned the other nutrients found in SMPL72:

So yes, we also believe you can question the majority of nutritional supplements. We aren't questioning the principle of supplementation itself, but rather its practical execution. It is often far too complicated, too expensive, and/or of questionable quality. There are exceptions, and SMPL72 is one of them. 100% natural, 100% absorbable, 100% powerful, 100% safe, 100% affordable.

Everything you want to know about SMPL72, enrollment, and how it works. Still have questions? We've got the answers.
This varies from person to person and depends primarily on your starting point. Fulvic acid supports the absorption and bioavailability of the minerals you already get through your diet or supplements. The faster your body responds to that improved availability, the sooner you will notice a difference. People with low mineral levels or higher requirements often experience changes sooner than those who are already well-nourished. Some users notice more clarity or a calmer energy level within a few days, while for others, it happens more gradually over a period of weeks. In SMPL72, the fulvic acid is naturally bound to 72 different minerals and trace elements. The most important thing is consistency: fulvic acid doesn't act as a quick stimulant, but as a daily absorption mechanism that builds its effect step by step.
People often get some minerals from various sources, but usually not enough. Furthermore, they are often poorly absorbed by the digestive system. It is important to realize that most supplements are synthetic, and in the case of minerals, they are essentially just rock. These contain large molecules that your body can barely absorb, if at all. We have previously written a blog post about the ins and outs of supplementation; feel free to check out our blog section. You might already be taking magnesium or zinc, but keep in mind that you are only taking one or two of the 60 minerals your body needs every day. When you think in terms of a complementary approach, you cannot simply pick one mineral out of the entire spectrum.
Fulvic acid is not an energy booster, nor is it a substance that provides an immediate effect on fatigue or concentration. What it does is something more fundamental: it supports the way your body absorbs and utilizes minerals. And that very point—the utilization of minerals—plays a bigger role for many people than they realize. Fatigue, "brain fog," and concentration issues often have multiple causes, but in orthomolecular practice, it is frequently observed that mineral metabolism and electrolyte balance are significant factors. Minerals are necessary for processes such as: - signal transmission in the nervous system - energy production in the mitochondria - oxygen transport - fluid balance in and around the cell - enzyme activity involved in focus, alertness, and metabolism If those minerals are insufficiently available at the cellular level, the body cannot perform these processes efficiently. Fulvic acid cannot solve that on its own, but it makes minerals chemically smaller, more soluble, and more accessible to the body. As a result, the minerals you ingest through food or supplements can be better utilized where they are needed. Many users experience a more stable energy level, greater clarity, or fewer fluctuations throughout the day. Not because fulvic acid provides a direct stimulant, but because minerals are able to do their job better. This is a fundamentally different mechanism than that of caffeine, stimulants, or "energy boosters." It remains important to emphasize: fulvic acid is not a treatment for fatigue or concentration issues. It merely supports the biological foundation upon which energy, clarity, and nerve function operate. What an individual notices from it naturally also depends on diet, hydration, lifestyle, and individual needs.
Fulvic acid has a very mild, almost neutral taste. Most people barely notice it when they add a few drops to a glass of water. Some describe it as having a very light mineral flavor, but you usually only notice it if you are really paying attention. SMPL72 is pure fulvic acid with no additives, which keeps the taste soft, clean, and subtle. You don't need to worry about a bitter, sharp, or "muddy" taste, which is common in impure or thick humic products. Most users find that it simply tastes like water with a very faint hint of minerality. This makes it easy to use every day, even for children or people who are sensitive to strong flavors. It is best to take SMPL fulvic acid in a glass of chlorine-free water. Fruit juice is also an option, but avoid hot drinks. It is very easy to use.
Add 7-10 drops daily to a glass of (chlorine-free) water (fruit juice is also an option, but avoid hot drinks). For children: 1 drop per 10 kg of body weight. Feel free to increase the dose during illness or intense physical exertion. For maximum absorption: take 30 minutes before a meal. For an energetic start to the day: take in the morning on an empty stomach. For recovery: take immediately after sports or physical exertion. SMPL72 is a powerful detox, so be sure to drink plenty of water. If you are pregnant or taking medication, build up the dose gradually and monitor how your body reacts. When in doubt, consult your doctor or midwife.
